Are changing belts part of normal maintenance?

Hello, I was looking at my 1999 Camaro manual and no where does it say to change the belts as part of normal maintenance schedule.

if this is true, which one needs to be changed the serpentine belt or the timing chain? I would think the timing chain would be harder and much more expensive.
Are changing belts part of normal maintenance?
You're taking about two separate things, so to clarify:

A timing chain (internal engine component) does not have a fixed replacement interval.

A timing belt does (semi-internal engine component).

A serpentine belt (external, drives accessories like power steering pump, alternator, etc) does not have a fixed replacement interval but should be inspected regularly.
Are changing belts part of normal maintenance?
Serpentine belt yes, timing chain no.
Belt should always be inspected during an oil change.

A timing chain?

No. That chain should last you up to 100.000 mile bud.
Sometimes the manual will say %26quot;inspect%26quot; serp. belt at around 60K. If not, you usually replace them when they start getting visible cracks in them.
Serpentine belts need to be checked at servicing .

Timing chains do not need to be replaced unless noisy.

If your car has timing Belts instead of a chain they need to be replaced at 60 000 miles regardless of what they look like
