How often should I change the drive belts and timing belts in my car?

Also, it possible to do these maintenance procedures by myself?

Timing belts on older cars, traditionally about 100k miles, but on newer cars, doesn't matter. The older ones would trash the engine if the belt broke, the newer ones, it just stops. I'd let it be, or only ask them to change it if they have to open up the engine for something else.

It depends on a car. This applies to everything - maintenance, drive belts, etc. Probably timing belt is out of your range regardless of what vehicle you are talking about...
