Do i need to change the timing belt for toyota camry for 150K miles,i heard they have timing chains not belts?

1993 camry,i was told i dont need to change the timing belts like the american cars for 120K miles

If it has a chain, it does not need to be replaced. I have gotten all worked up about my PowerStroke not needing a replacement and the Ford dealers ALL swear that the chains are fine.

I'd switch it out now, before it goes out on it's own. Replacing it now, will save you hundreds of dollars in repair costs if it blows. It's due, most cars should replace the belt/chain at around 100,000.
no car that small or new has chain driven timing you are confused with trucks and old muscle cars.

Go on line or call the dealer to find out the mileage interval. Some cars go for longer then others. You need to find out because the new timing set up is different then the old way if your belt breaks it could cause all the valves to bend. That would be a very expense repair.
150K miles is stretching it (no pun intended) for replacement of timing belts in any car. I'd recommend it getting replaced before 100K, or even 90K - check your manufacturers' recommended schedules.



It's not a cheap repair (even thought the cost of the part isn't all that high) due to the labor and time involved to access the belt, but the alternative, if the belt breaks while you're running the car, is even more costly.



You should also replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt because it is around the same location (troublesome to get at) and will also eventually go bad too.
Unsure on the 93 camry rather it is chain or belt , i do know Toyota in 96 their 4 cylinder engines such as the rav 4 which is same engine as the camry had a belt and it was changed by the dealer at 80,000 miles my advice is contact your local dealer or read your owners manual it will tell you when they recomdne chamging it, and at 150K miles i would recomend chaging it regardless , much cheaper and easier to vhange it at 150k miles than driving on a raod trip and the belt break and engine jumps time, then its difficult and could be damage to your engine, but regardless she is in the shop for a few days. good luck.....
in aust we have the sdv10 camry with a 5sfe 2.2ltr motor the same as your came toyota aust recomends 1000.00 km change of the timing belt if you check world wide all the same
I have a 1995 Toyota. It has a timing belt. I have 235,899 miles on this engine.

You do need to have the timing belt replaced NOW!

If it should break, it will leave you on the side of the road. The timing belt will not give you any warning that its about to break. The only way to tell is to look under the hook and see if the belt has wear and tear.

If is should break, it will do more damage to the car. I know a timing belt here runs $60 plus labor. Labor runs around $100 an hour. I had one break on a Dodge Dakota and it cost me $1,200. to repair the damage. Never ran worth a crap after that.
1993 camry has a timing belt not a chain. replace the belt every 60k
Toyota didn't start switching back to chains until 1998 with the corolla and celica. Camry didn't switch until 2002.

Maintenance interval for timing belt replacement on 93 Camry is 60,000 miles.
